I picked up a Gold Crown a few weeks back and had some trouble finding
replacement cushions that would fit properly. After reading through
this forum and not truely understanding the issue with replacing Monarch
Superspeed cushions I decided to call Glen (RealKingCobra) and he
recommended that I talk to SDBilliards as he is local here in Southern
California.
I paid the table mechanic that moved the table, but asked him to go
ahead and leave it dissambled so I could have Donny finish the table.
I did just that and I couldn't be happier. I was nervous as he wanted
to pick up the rails and bring them back in about 3 weeks and finish
the table. Having been around pool for a number of years I figured
3 weeks was going to turn into 3 months.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt and didn't call to follow up until
it got closer to 3 weeks and sure enough, he was ready to deliver
and we scheduled a time.
I honestly figured I was going to get a call about an hour after the
agreed upon time and he'd either be flaking or really really late.
But nope, he showed up on time and had everything that he needed.
I played on the table last night and it's the best table I've ever
played on and I couldn't be any happier. The level of work is top
notch and the table plays fantastic. The subrails were extended to
tighten the pockets and I think they are the perfect size at about
4.5". Very fair, but still tough enough to require a little effort
to pocket balls.
He "recalibrated" the rails and installed Artemis Intercontinental
K66 rails with new Simonis 860 cloth and it sure does play spot on.

Last week,
Donny came and fixed my eight-month-old Gold Crown V Tournament Edition.
The improvement in the table is remarkable.
To start with, just finding anyone willing to come up here in the
middle of nowhere is difficult. I feel quite fortunate that Donny
was willing to drive up here. He put in a very long day, but never
rushed or cut corners; his only purpose throughout the day (and well
into the night) was to make the table the best it could be. And I
believe he succeeded. The fact that Donny is also a hell of a nice
guy and it was enjoyable hanging with him while he worked is a bonus.
I had thought that the table was very flat and level, but after Donny
fixed a slight crown in the head slate and releveled all the slates
and the table, it was obvious that small imperfections have a big
effect. I guess it's true that close only counts in horse shoes and
grenades. Donny spent nearly as much time leveling the table as some
"installers" will take for a complete table installation
(okay, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but he did spend a very
long time leveling the thing).
The pocket castings were all fitted properly. The pocket angles were
corrected and new facings were installed to replace the Brunswick
ball ejectors. When new, the corner pockets varied in size by more
than an eighth of an inch, and the angles were not all the same. The
side pockets were an eighth different at the points and a quarter-inch
different at the throat. With the down angles way off spec, the side
pockets were nearly unusable. When Donny was finished, I had 4-3/8"
corner pockets and 4-7/8" side pockets that all play exactly
as you would expect; no surprises. Excellent.
I had been unhappy with the cushions on the table, because they banked
a little short. This was apparently due to the cloth on the cushions
being just a bit loose, because with the new cloth installed, the
banking is now perfect. Another bonus.
Now, it's like having a new and better table. I couldn't be more happy
with the work that was done.
So, thanks again, Donny.
My Table is finally DONE!!!
Huge thanks to SD Billiards!!! - 11-29-2009, 09:10 PM
First of all, i just want to say what an outstanding job that Donny
did to my table. He turned a beat up old Pinto and turned it into
a Ferrari. I can really tell he loves his work and it shows. I have
been talking to him for almost 6 months now but it just seemed like
everytime i was ready for him to come out something came up. Well
that day finally came and now i have the table i always wanted. I
didnt have the best gold crown 3 to work with but he treated it like
he owned it. Here are a few pics as the day went buy.
My Connelly
set up by SDBilliards - 11-03-2009, 04:55 PM
I just wanted to publicly thank Donny Wessels (SDBilliards) for the
great job he did on my new, previously owned Connelly 8 footer. Donny
is a consummate professional and a true artist. He spent a great deal
of time making sure the table was set up just right.
I helped him move the table from its previous owner's upstairs loft,
down and around a narrow staircase, past childproof gates out the
garage and into his truck. Then from his truck into my house. I really
should have known better than to attempt that. The Connelly has 1
1/4" slate and I thought I was going to pass out on him the whole
time we were moving the pieces. Donny was patient with me and I survived.
I certainly don't recommend moving slate unless you are REALLY sure
you can do it!
The table plays great and I am really enjoying it, so thank you Donny!

I contacted Donny about building me some rails less than two weeks ago. He calibrated them with rail extensions and artemis rubber and put my rail cloth on them that I sent down. Perfect diamond pockets. I measured and compared the angles and opening to the smart tables we have here in town and they're identical. Last night I finished up the project. He did exactly what he said he would, exactly when he said he would do it. With expert workmanship. How refreshing! Anyone who needs rail work I would highly recommend shipping them to Southern California for fast expert service! Thanks Donny!!
Also I applied the bed cloth installation from the Simonis DVD with very nice results. Thank Glen and Jay for that.
